James Dalton has been named a program manager at Norwich University’s College of Graduate and Continuing Studies, working with Norwich’s expanding portfolio of online bachelor’s degree completion programs.

Dalton manages the Bachelor of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis (SSDA), a program specially designed for those assigned to or retired from one of the subordinate commands within the U.S. Special Operations Command and NATO Special Operations Forces.

“As a former military leader and experienced educator of service members, the knowledge James brings will help ensure the program’s continued relevance and real-world application to our nation’s military,” said Bill Clements, Ph.D., dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies.

With 27 years of active duty military experience in the U.S. Navy, Dalton has served as a naval flight officer and a professor at the Naval War College. As a military professor, he developed and managed military education programs for advanced warfare studies related to conventional and unconventional warfare across all phases. During his assignment as a joint experimentation officer, he designed and coordinated test programs for new systems to benefit all branches of the U.S. Special Forces and developed curriculum dedicated to unconventional warfare education.

“I am honored to be able to continue to serve this great nation at Norwich University,” said Dalton. “It’s extremely rewarding to lead this program and observe  members of the U.S. Special Forces community expand their education within this specialized degree program as they continue their military service or transition to new opportunities.”

Dalton has his master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri.
