Norwich University’s College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS) is now welcoming students into the new online Master of Arts in International Relations program. The first cohort is set to begin classes in March 2016.

The international relations program adds to Norwich’s global footprint – bringing together students from a variety of backgrounds and industries to blend real-world practice into the curriculum. This collaboration will help better equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the economic, cultural and political issues impacting today’s world and become effective global leaders.

“With our long standing commitment to global understanding, the international relations graduate program creates more opportunity for Norwich University to reach a larger audience of working adults who wish to build upon and advance their careers in the international arena,” William Clements, dean of the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies said.

Students enrolled in the international relations program will complete courses in a specialization of their choice. The four concentrations available are international security, national security, international development and cyber diplomacy. Working closely with Norwich faculty, students will finish the program through an individualized research component that defines, analyzes and gives perspective on a topic of their choice within the field of international relations.

“The international relations program is designed to give students a broader perspective on international affairs. It will let individual learners choose a course of studies that is the best suited to their professional or academic interests,” said Lasha Tchantouridzé, program director for international relations.

With the addition of the international relations program and the four concentrations, Norwich has expanded its graduate offerings to 10 programs and a total of 38 areas of specialization across those programs.

In 2014, Forbes.com ranked international relations as the No. 5 best “Master’s Degree for Jobs.” According to Forbes.com, mid-career professionals working in the international relations field earn a median salary of $97,500. Careers associated with this degree are projected to grow 21% from 2012 to 2022.

With coursework completed entirely online through Norwich’s flexible learning platform, the international relations program has four start dates throughout the year (January, March, May and September), allowing students to begin the program when it is most convenient for them. The final academic requirement for the international relations program, and all other graduate programs, is a week-long residency at the beautiful and historic Norwich University campus in Vermont. Students have the opportunity to meet with fellow students, faculty, and program staff in both formal classroom and informal settings.
