When Norwich University’s campus is buzzing with golf carts, bookstore lines are backed up with customers holding armfuls of the latest Norwich-branded gear, the mess hall’s soft-serve machines are filled with maple creemees, the Dog River has lost 200 or so stones the size of a small boulder, and the most-polished professionals found anywhere are prepping for a capstone presentation or poster session in the library, it must be the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies’ Residency Conference.

For John Gordon’13, it is not a question of whether he will serve his country working for the U.S. Department of State, but how. While working on his Master of Arts in Diplomacy from Norwich University, Gordon passed the State Department’s Foreign Service examination and received an offer to become a Foreign Service Officer. Then in April 2014, he was named a finalist for the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program.
