Abstract:

The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) emerged during an era when the U.S. had great faith in its military power and abilities in nation-building as effective weapons to stop the spread of Communism. Despite the abundance of military equipment and financial support the U.S. provided the ARVN, the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) of North Vietnam swiftly defeated them in approximately 55 days in 1975. Of the various factors that contributed to the ARVN's defeat, this monograph provides an in-depth look at how the ARVN's inability to perform effective logistics management inhibited them from deterring PAVN aggression after 1973, and consequently played a critical role in their defeat in 1975.
