Abstract:

For over 200 years, the United States has grappled with the task of public education funding. Today, education spending in the United States is at an all-time high, and the struggle continues as our nation declines in world rankings. What seems to be causing such a disparity in public education? Why is it that we spend the most per child, but continue to see poor performance across the board? This paper will examine the most prevalent reasons why the lack of appropriate public primary, secondary and tertiary education funding is causing a decline in rankings. This paper seeks to set a new standard for the United States education system, improve upon the existing financial structure, and fundamentally change the curriculum to stay current with the changing needs of the world economy.
