Abstract:

The current western societal cultural problem of Islamophobic based discrimination is significant. Overcoming Islamophobia through organizational equal opportunity or anti-discrimination programs may be a step towards a solution. This paper provides a proposed study to address the problem that Islamophobic discrimination results in decreased organizational diversity and performance through exclusion. The intent of this research project is to identify methods to prevent Islamophobic related discrimination with the overall goal of addressing a wider cultural issue of Islamophobic discrimination in western cultures. The overarching research questions guiding this study focus on steps leaders could take to prevent discrimination using current anti-discrimination programs and identifying common themes within those programs. The data needed for this research will focus on cases of reported Islamophobic based discrimination and identifying common themes of successful anti-discrimination. Results of this study should identity examples of Islamophobic based discrimination as well as basic themes found within successful anti-discrimination programs. This paper should conclude that Islamophobic discrimination can be avoided through current equal opportunity or anti-discrimination programs with adequate leadership, communication, and diversity familiarization. Future applications recommend organizational review of current anti-discrimination policies, leadership and communication methods to ensure Islamophobic, or any other form of discrimination is prevented or stopped in the workplace environment.
