Abstract:

The growing problems of scarce water resources and water quality in the state of California combined with high population growth and more stringent regulations are examined. The focus is on designing a low-cost, efficient wastewater treatment process to meet effluent quality standards.

The city of Rohnert Park, CA, is no different from the rest of the state: the city population continues to grow, and the need for a separate wastewater treatment plant facility is becoming a must. The city plans to build a wastewater treatment plant facility of its own, with a budget of $40 million, to treat the wastewater generated from residential, commercial, and industrial facilities located along the city’s borders. By constructing this facility, the city aims to provide residents neighboring the facility with free irrigation water, and use the rest to recharge its groundwater aquifer using the treated effluent.
