Abstract:

In 2006, the Clifton Crossing Bridge competition solicited designs for a new crossing across the Avon Gorge and Clifton. The designers were asked to use all their skill and imagination in foreseeing the materials and methods that might be deployed in design in the forthcoming years, and to design an aesthetically pleasing bridge crossing the Avon Gorge.

In 2011, Norwich University offered a chance to re-open the 2006 Clifton Crossing Bridge Competition for use as a final capstone project. The purpose of this final capstone project is to take an in-depth look at the social, political, economic, and environmental impacts that influence a new bridge design project. Here, the designer or engineer will investigate and address the requirements of the competition as well as integrate the requirements of the final capstone project.
