Just War Theory in the Middle Ages and Its Effects on the Thirty Years’ War

Author:
Anthony Abboreno
Abstract:

Was the theory of Just War that was espoused by Augustine in the Roman era, Aquinas in the middle ages, Grotius in the early-modern age, and others throughout history altered at the time of the middle ages, or was it used to explain the positions that were taken? How deeply did the religious ties of these groups affect why they fought, or was it a justification to gain power, control, and dominion over land?
