Disaster Recovery Planning & Recovery Capability

Abstract:

When companies discuss disaster recovery planning for their critical business processes, the focus is usually on what the recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO / RPO) are for that particular process. Recovery Time Objective is the acceptable amount of time, typically established within a Business Impact Analysis, it will take to recover the critical process, function, or system and return to normal operations after an outage has occurred.

This paper explores how another set of measurements - recovery capability - are much more important to a company, the impact it can have on a company’s true ability to recover, and how it can be measured.
