Shedding the Inherited Title of Illegal Immigrant by Legitimizing Space in Society
Author:
Deborah Larsen
Abstract:

This thesis delves into the lives of illegal immigrant children who were brought into the United States at an early age by parents trying to make a better life for their family. These children learn side-by-side native-born American children, knowing that their education will more than likely get them nowhere in this country because of their illegal status. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Act is the first step the United States government has taken that would allow these children the US citizenship that they dream of one day having. It would allow them to utilize the educations they obtained in this country and become law-abiding American citizens without having to live in fear of being deported back to a country they have never known.
