Abstract:

Cultural clashes are a challenging issue faced by conflict resolution professionals and diplomats in the 21st century. On the global level, one of the most terrific cultural clashes in the 21st century was the 9/11 terrorist attacks. These attacks express a clash of incompatible values and escalate into what Huntington referred to as a "clash of civilizations." Cultural differences have impacted traditional diplomacy and have made diplomats’ work more complex.

This essay addresses the issue of diplomatic communication and cultural diversity between the U.S. and the Muslim world. It also explains why diplomacy should be integrated with social media in addressing cultural clashes.
