Communication and Change

Abstract:

This paper discusses the commonly held belief that properly executed communication is sufficient for successful business change. The research suggests that when considering the extensive scope of communication and its impact on employees' willingness to support change, clear communication is critical to the success of any change effort. However, the research also suggests that communication is more than a mere exchange of information.

This paper concludes that effective communication is only sufficient for change when leaders carry it out consistently, deliberately, and in a manner that creates an emotional connection between the change vision and a firm's employees. Furthermore, the best change leaders communicate in a way that evokes a willingness to change in the minds and hearts of the organization's people.
