For I can Raise no Money by Vile Means:

T.E. Lawrence and his Relationship with Money, Debt, Society and the Historical Record
Author:
R. Pierce Reid
Abstract:

This paper looks at the reasons why Col. T.E. Lawrence, best known as Lawrence of Arabia, withdrew from society following World War I and refused to correct the myths that surrounded his wartime activities. It looks at a number of factors that may have contributed to his decision based on the existing historiography and adds a new factor: his relationship with money and debt.
