Homelessness in San Diego:

A Solutions Review Through Statistics
Author:
Zapata Hough
Abstract:

In San Diego County, over eight thousand adults and children are homeless at any given time. This figure represents not just those who are down on their luck, temporarily without shelter or will soon have a place to stay. In reality this figure represents a far greater challenge to San Diego public administrators in that it is a number that represents those that are chronically homeless, who may never recover to move out of homeless status. Myriad organizations exist in San Diego to assist the homeless and several tasks forces, studies, and symposiums have been conducted to try to find a workable, long-term solution to the homeless crisis, but sustainable results have eluded our administrators. This paper examines some of those efforts, determines what has worked in the past, and explores what can be the keystones to a viable solution in the future.
